Tage Frid's Mortising Jig. Umpteen years ago our favorite Great Dane invented a mortising jig for use with his favorite plunge router. It was a very simple jig, knocked together from scrap plywood, which allowed him to rout mortises of any length, any width, up to 3' deep (depending on the bit in use), in virtually any workpiece that might come to hand. When Tage Frid wrote about workbenches in the third volume of his iconic “Tage Frid Teaches Woodworking” (Taunton) he described a state of time (1948) wherein a good workbench could not be obtained in this country.
